Top 4 Favorite Tractors of All Time

Be it pulling heavy loads, plowing or feeding cattle hay, a tractor is a basic necessity in farms and ranches. The equipment makes seeding, farming, planting, reaping, tilling and fertilizing faster and efficient for farm owners. Manufacturers have improved on comfort, features and versatility, yet there are a few models from the past that are still a favorite. If you are looking for used tractors, we list the four favorite tractors of all time that are easy to find at heavy equipment auctions. Read on.

John Deere Model 4020
A total of 184,879 John Deere Model 4020 tractors were manufactured from 1963-1972. The tractor is an amped-up version of 4010 and comes with six-cylinder engine that generates 96 horsepower. An optional Syncro Range, which is a power shift transmission, is an addition in the tractor. Users can operate the tractor at 8 forward speeds and 2 reverse speeds.

Ford Model 8N

Ford produced approximately 534,000 Model 8N tractors from 1947-1952, and this particular model accounts for 25 percent of the tractors that were produced in the U.S. during that period. The tractor has 4-speed transmission and position-control hydraulics setting. Ford sold more than 400 tractors/day for next five years, and the model was replaced with Golden Jubilees, Ford NAA in 1953.

Farmall Model M

Farmall Model M tractor was the row-crop version of McCormick-Deering W-6. The tractor was manufactured from 1939-1954, and was the company’s first model with a diesel engine. Although, you have to start the tractor with gasoline first and switch to diesel slowly when the engine warms up. The MV “vegetable version” of the model has higher ground clearance.

Massey Ferguson 399

The tractor was introduced in 1987 and became the most powerful of the entire 300 Series released by Massey Ferguson. The initially released model had 97hp engine, which was improved to 104hp and finally to 125/130hp. The production of 399 was stopped in 1997 as Massey launched 4200 Series and the 399 was replaced by 4270.

Final Words

Tractors come with several options to meet the specific requirements of the users. If you are, however, looking for a basic model for lawn care, landscape moving, mowing and ploughing, a used model would serve the purpose.
